Preparation : Leaves crushed with water for decoction. Young shoot and unripe fruit eaten as a vegetable. Fruits boiled for extract.
Mode of use : Decoction & Fresh
Ingredients : The stem and root barks contain three flavone colouring matters viz Oroxylin-A, baicalein and chrysin. The bark contain traces of an alkaloid, charya. The seeds contain a yellow crystalline principle and baicalein and its glucoside.
Ailment Treated : Root bark is tonic, astringent and used in diarrhoea and dysentery. Decoction of leaf and bark is used in muscular sprain and general weakness. Tender fruit are stomachic, expectorant and carminative. Seeds are purgative. Mature fruits are acrid, sweet, anthelmintic and stomachic. Decoction of fruit is used in heart problem, throat, piles, bronchitis and cough.
Source : Generally in foothills and low-altitude hills. Occasionally cultivated as avenue tree in the valley areas.
