Preparation : Tender leaves for fresh consumption. Bark boiled for extract. Seeds dried and ground into powder. Bark crushed and boiled in water for extract. Fruit are eaten.
Mode of use : Fresh and Decoction
Ingredients : Seeds contain glycoside jambolin, ellagic acid, tannin, gallic acid, chlorophyll, fatty oil, starch, resin, sugar and traces of oil. Flowers give acetyl oleanolic acid, ellagic acid, quercetin, kaempferol and myrocetin.
Ailment Treated : Decoction of bark and powdered seeds are used in diabetes. The leaves are antibacterial and used for strengthening the teeth and gums. The tender leaves are used for vomiting. The fruits and seeds are sweet, acrid, sour, tonic, diabetes, diarrhoea, splenopathy, urethrorrhea and ringworm. Pulp is stimulant, stomachic, good in colitis. Unripe fruit is diuretic and carminative. Bark extract is given in dyspepsia and dysentery. Bark tannin is antibiotic.
